The Cornerstone Training Programme is one full day — theory and practical skills together, 9am to 3pm with lunch provided. Those who impress may be invited separately to a practical assessment. Pass that, and you join our network as a Cornerstone Verified nanny.

Optional — Day 2 CPR & First Aid morning
A half-day paediatric CPR & first aid session is available as an add-on (9am–12:30pm, R450). If you already hold a valid first aid certificate within the last 3 years, you do not need to attend.
● What the course covers

Our
Training Academy Programme.

One full day, 9am to 3pm, lunch provided, Cape Town CBD. The morning covers theory — standards, child development, health & safety and safeguarding. The afternoon is hands-on practical skills. Everyone who completes the day receives a Cornerstone Training Certificate. Separately, by invitation only, Cornerstone may invite you to a practical assessment to join the network as a Cornerstone Verified nanny.

Confidentiality, social media policy and professional conduct
Daily logs, end-of-day handover and communication with parents

Newborn care — sleep patterns, feeding, crying and settling
Infant and toddler milestones — what to expect at each stage
Age-appropriate play, stimulation and creative activities
Sleep routines, settling techniques and following the family method

Child safety — hazard awareness inside and outside the home
Common childhood illnesses — symptoms, when to escalate
First aid and CPR — choking, burns, falls, fever response
Allergies, EpiPen awareness and medication administration

Safeguarding & Child Protection
Recognising abuse — physical, emotional and neglect
Mandatory reporting obligations and the Cornerstone process
Secrets, disclosure and what to say when a child tells you something

Practical Skills
Nappy changing, bottle preparation and sterilisation
Nutrition, weaning onto solid foods and meal preparation
Bath time safety, safe sleep setup and bedtime routines
Settling into a new home — building trust with children and families
